Environmental Control Systems

FFD 203/Fall 2005.

Pınar ERDİL pinar.erdil@ieu.edu.tr

The general aim of the semester course is to deepen the knowledge and sensitivity of design pinciples towards building performances. In that sense it analyses architectural lighting, acoustics and thermal comfort. Within these topics, the course will emphasize on passive(natural)-active(mechanical) techniques, basic concepts, materials, measurement of criterions, economical way of usages, comparison of projects between centuries, tremendous effects on interior and exterior spaces which must be considered at the earliest stage of designing process.

The course is based on lectures, research assignments, student presentations, demonstrations of different companies about the subjects, discussions, daily tours in the university or surrounding buildings. With eclectic method, activities done during the semester will gain an ability of realization of details, sharing the experiences, producing new ideas, upgrading the knowledges.

Individual Presentation, Research Assignment, Quizes, Midterm and Final Exam will be considered in Assessment. The evaluation will be based on the potential, originality and creative application of each work as well as the quality and execution of presentations.

Individual Presentation %10
Quizes(total) %20
Research Assignment %15
Midterm %25
Final Exam %30

Critics and each kind of presentation are conducted in English. Presentations or questions in Turkish are not accepted and considered.
Students must attend a minimum of 80% of the Class time to receive a passing grade from the course.
You have to be on time in class. A student will be counted absent for that hour of the lecture if the time is over from the time the instructor was in the class. Concentration and time is everything for this lecture!!!
Each student is responsible for the damages done to the furniture and equipments given by the University.
Work submitted after the indicated submission dates and time will be seen as late submission.
Late submissions will be reflected on your final grade of the given exercise. For example, if your grade is an AA one, the final grade of the exercise will drop down one grade. That is, it would go down to BB.
If your work is completed, but you are not able to submit your work because of some personal reasons you have to send it with a friend to class.
